KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- This is not the time to point the finger of blame at some person or other, nor to label someone as the black sheep. The boys who perished are no more and will never ever return!

Their parents and family members are distraught and overcome by grief. Even people who have no blood ties with them are greatly saddened.

However, instead of engaging in polemics, it would be more worthwhile to ponder over the horrific incident, identify the root causes and come up with appropriate measures to prevent it from recurring.

This, essentially, is how this writer feels about the eight teenage cyclists who were killed after a car ploughed into them at about 3am on Saturday at the Middle Ring Road, near the Mahmoodiah Muslim cemetery, in Johor Bahru.
