Opcom To Venture Into Broadband Infrastructure Business By Year End

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Fibre optic cable manufacturer, Opcom Holdings Bhd hopes to venture into broadband infrastructure as its new core business by end of this year, its chairman and managing director, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said Saturday.

However, he said, the fibre optic business will be the main revenue contributor to the company.

Opcom Holdings has established a subsidiary, Opcom Network Technologies that would focus on supplying broadband related products and services, he told reporters at Bursa Malaysia-OSK Small Cap Roadshow 2005, here.

Mukhriz said the company also hopes to secure broadband related business projects from local and international companies within one year.

"We are very optimistic of the broadband business prospect. We are looking at securing both local and internationl tenders. Right now, it is easier to do locally but we are very keen of securing international projects," he said.

Mukhriz said Opcom Holdings has been looking into prodiving services which include design work for the customer and supply of broadband related products.

The company also aim to increase its export market to 20 percent within the next five years, he said.

As part of the company's expansion plan, Mukhriz said Opcom is looking at expanding its business to Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Opcom Holdings has market presence in the Philippines, Brunei, West Asia and Sweden while Telekom Malaysia is its major customer in the local market.
