Universiti Teknologi Sarawak Offers Technical Studies To Sarawakians
KUCHING, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak chief minister is confident Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, to be built in Sibu, will provide opportunities, especially to those in rural areas, to pursue technical studies as a means to raise their income level.
Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had agreed to approve another university which offered higher education programmes in technical development, especially in the implementation of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy (Score).
"For Sarawak, the per capita income will rise far higher than the current RM45,000 by 2020, on condition the younger generation aspire higher in technical studies," he said in a message, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here Saturday.
He has also sought the cooperation of universities from Australia, India and other places to set up technical study colleges statewide.
Apart from successfully setting up four universities in Sarawak, Abdul Taib said the government would also open more technical schools in the next 10 years.
