BN Youth Keen To Buy Land At Taman Manggis

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The state Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth is prepared to buy 0.445 hectare of vacant land at Taman Manggis, Jalan Zainal Abidin, here from the state government to build low-cost housing units, said Penang Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong.

He said BN Youth would buy the land at RM450 per sq ft from the state government at a total cost of RM21 million.

"Money is no problem because we will collect funds from individuals and several companies that have volunteered to help. What is important now is the people's requirement, their welfare must be given priority," he told reporters here Wednesday.

The land at Taman Manggis should have been proposed for the second phase of the Public Housing Project (PPR) but the Penang state government had sold the land to a developer to put up a 19-storey hotel, a six-storey hospital and a five-storey car park.

Oh said the BN Youth would ensure that the construction of the low-cost homes would be implemented as soon as all transactions for the purchase of the land had been completed.
