Trader Fined RM156,000 For Selling Pirated DVDs, CDs

SHAH ALAM, July 24 (Bernama) -- An 18-year-old trader was fined RM156,000, in default six months' jail, by the Sessions Court here Tuesday for selling pirated DVDs and CDs.

Judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar handed down the sentence on Lee Jia Hao after he pleaded guilty to selling 78 pirated DVDs and CDs last month.

Lee committed the offence at a shop at Jalan 14/2, Subang Jaya, at about 5.30pm last June 10.

In mitigation, Lee's lawyer, Surya Putra Taulan, said his client had not previous record and was remorse.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, Syahriah Shapiee, requested for a deterrent sentence as a lesson to others.
