Perak Customs Seize Firecrackers Worth About Half Of Million
IPOH, July 23 (Bernama) -- Perak customs have crippled an attempt to smuggle firecrackers worth RM471,270 with unpaid duties of RM306,325.50, the biggest yet this year.
State customs director Ab. Hamid Salleh said in the first raid, the enforcement division in Pengkalan Hulu seizeD a lorry container at North Butterworth Container Terminal in Penang about 5 pm, on July 5.
"Preliminary inspection of the container found 1,190 cartons firecrackers worth RM451,100 with unpaid duties of RM293,215.
"Normally, the firecrackers are sold in urban and rural areas during this fasting month," he told reporters at his office, here Monday.
Further investigation found that the container which had been a week at the port was declared as carrying furniture.
