Northern Region News July 10, 2012 15:57 PM UniMAP Win Overall Athletics Title In Sukum For Fifth Consecutive Time KANGAR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) continued its dominance in athletics events at the Malaysian Universities Sports Council Games (Sukum) held at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok by retaining the overall title in athletics for the fifth consecutive time. UniMAP won 18 gold, 10 silver, 5 bronze medals in the games that ended yesterday to edge closest rival Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) who collected 6 gold, 5 silver, 7 bronze medals while Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) finished third with 5 gold, 5 silver and five bronze medals. According to a statement from UniMAP today, the university's senior women athletes were instrumental in the victory after contributing 9 gold medals, the same number as their male counterparts. Apart from athletics, the 20 universities that participated in the Sukum, competed in football, netball, lawn bowls, badminton, tennis, sepak takraw, volleyball, hockey, table tennis, tenpin bowling, go-kart, tug-of-war, darts, futsal, chess and carom. -- BERNAMA
