SIBU, June 27 (Bernama) -- There is a huge demand for bottled drinking water in drought-stricken rural areas in the state now, said the Assistant Minister of Public Ultility (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvestor Entri Muran.
He said he had recieved word that there were rogue traders who had jacked up the price to cash in on the demand.
"There is also the possibility of this spreading due to the increasing demand," he told the media today after declaring open a three-day workshop entitled "Modernisation of Sarawak Water Supply" for 70 water experts from thoroughout the state, here.
He said this should not happen as the folk concerned had already enough problems in getting water for other daily use.
"I hope the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism will send its officers to monitor the situation on the ground.
