Cuepacs Proposes Unrecorded Leave For Umrah
LANGKAWI, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) plans to propose that the government grants unrecorded leave for the performance of umrah, said its president Datuk Omar Osman.
"Since January 2009, civil servants' annual leave was reduced from 30 to 35 days annually to between 17 and 25 days. They are only allowed to take unrecorded leave for national and state interest activities. They have to apply for annual or no-pay leave for umrah.
"So we seek the consideration of the government to review the purpose of unrecorded leave to include the performance of umrah,' he told reporters after closing a jointly organised seminar by Former Malaysian Customs Association and 1Malaysia Government Retirees Club at Langkasuka Hotel here today.
"We ask that the unrecorded leave is extended to all civil servants. As for the other races, they can use it for tours. For example, we can allocate 10 days for them to travel anywhere to gain knowledge but on condition they travel in groups and not alone," he said.
He added that they would be bringing the matter up at a meeting with senior officers on Monday through an application to upgrade the welfare of civil servants.
