Pahang BN Confident Of Winning Big Majority
KUANTAN, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Pahang Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of maintaining its stranglehold by winning 13 of 14 parliamentary seats and 40 of 42 state seats in the coming general election, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
He said the state BN could brush off a strong challenge posed by the opposition by winning all parliamentary seats except for Kuantan (held by the PKR) and all states seats except for Triang and Tras (held by the DAP).
"We are banking our hopes on winnable candidates who will be our trump cards.
"For Kuantan, I would say 65 per cent of the voters are fence-sitters. If we put an electable candidate, who is well-liked by the people, God willing, we will wrest the seat," he told reporters after opening the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists here today.
On Umno's probable candidates for the next general election, Adnan, who is also menteri besar and state Umno liaison committee chairman, said he had given three names for each divisions to the Umno Headquarters.
"Irrespective of who are nominated, all quarters, including elected representatives who may be dropped, should continue to work for the people as the victories are in their hands.
"Do not be self-centred because the people will get disgusted with you. If they are sick of you, how can you win," he said.
