KOTA BAHARU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Thirteen schools in Pasir Mas and Tumpat districts closed due to flood three days ago will reopen Sunday.

Kelantan education director Hussein Awang said the headmasters had been told to reopen the schools as the situation has returned to normal.

The 13 national schools with over 7,000 students were ordered closed after Sungai Golok overflowed its banks submerging surrounding areas in 0.5-3 metres of water.

They are SK Sri Rantau Panjang (1); SK Sri Rantau Panjang (11); SK Rantau Panjang; SK Lubok Setol; SK Kok Pauh, SK Rahmat; SK Gual Sitok, SK Gual Tok Deh; SMK Rantau panjang; SRJKC Khay Boon; SK Bakong, SK Chenderong Batu and SK Bendang Pak Yong.

Hussein said school authorities and flood relief workers are busy cleaning up the schools to prepare them for reopening tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Rantau Panjang Civil Defence Department chief Yusnizam Jusoh said it is waiting for word from school authorities to help in the clean-up operation.

In PENDANG, Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) will contribute rice, sugar, bread and mineral water worth RM500,000 to flood victims in Kedah and Perlis.

Senior general manager Abdul Rahman Mohd Nasri said the aid to be given out today until Monday was to ensure adequate food supply to the flood victims.

"Some 20,000 bags of rice (10kg) and 20,000 bags of sugar (10kg) will be distributed to flood victims in 100 relief centres in Kedah and Perlis while 12,000 loaves of bread and 12,000 bottles of mineral water will be distributed to victims stranded in their houses," he said in Bukit Raya dekat here today.
