Twenty Pct Johor Govt Staff Surf Internet During Working Hours

JOHOR BAHARU, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- About 20 per cent of government staff in Johor were found to have surfed the Internet at their offices during working hours.

State Secretary, Datin Paduka Norsiah Harun said such misuse of the Internet especially downloading songs, was one of the main causes for poor work performance, besides slow work due to a slow computer system.

"An observation by the Johor ICT said 20 per cent of the staff often downloaded pictures, computer games and surfed pornographic materials which could affect the office computer system," she said.

Norsiah was speaking during a meeting between the Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman with officers and other members of the Johor Civil Service at Kompleks Islam here, Tuesday.

Norsiah said the government viewed the matter seriously and the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) would enforce regulations on the matter soon.

She reminded all department heads to be firm in tackling the problem and to remind their staff of their responsibilities.

"Government staff are also reminded not to take too long during morning and afternoon breaks," she said.
