George Town Literary Festival 2017 To Be Held In November

GEORGE TOWN, July 5 (Bernama) -- The George Town Literary Festival 2017 returns for theseventh edition this year with the theme of Monsters Against (Im) Mortals which will be held from Nov 24 to 26 in The Majestic Theathre, Penang, here.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the festivalhas grown to become the largest and most anticipated international literary festival in Malaysia with its unique commitment to freedom of expression, free speech and specific focus on world literature.

"Since 2011, the festival had a vision to encourage the literary arts to flourish freely in Penang, for writers and poets to share their words and for audiences to be engaged and inspired,"hetold reporters after launching the seventh edition of George Town Literary Festival 2017 at The Majestic Theatre today.

He said the festival continues to shed light on a rich history and vibrant heritage.

He saidthe festival wasthe largest international literary festival in the country and is supported and funded by the state government.

"The festival which continues to be free and open to the public, with exception of the writing workshops, is one of the most anticipated festivals in the region," he said.

Shortlisted for the Best Literary Festival Award by the London Book Fair in 2017, the festival this year will come with Bernice Chaulytaking charge as the Festival Director.
