Food At Terengganu Ramadan Bazaars Undergo Health Tests
KUALA TERENGGANU, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Health Department, with the cooperation of the Kuala Terengganu City Council, has begun collecting food samples from the 2,900 Ramadan Bazaar stalls for the purpose of health inspection.
The samples are checked for the risk of exposure to bacteria contamination, particularly food handled directly with the hands, that which has coconut milk as an ingredient or uncooked food such as 'kerabu' (salad).
State Health, Unity and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar said today food samples were also taken regularly at the district level by department staff with help of the local authorities.
"Our staff will go to the Ramadan bazaars in each district and take samples of food which face the risk of contamination and can endanger the public.
"If lab reports confirm that the food is contaminated, stern action will be taken, including stopping its sale at the bazaars," he told Bernama.
