MIC Submits 56 Names Of Potential Candidates To Najib

JOHOR BAHARU, May 20 (Bernama) -- MIC has submitted the list of potential candidates for the coming 13th general election to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Its president, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, said the list contained 56 names for consideration by Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman.

"We have two names for each of the nine parliamentary seats and 19 state seats held by MIC, he told reporters after opening a gathering for the Indian community in the compound of Permas Mall, Permas Jaya here Sunday.

Also present were Higher Education Minister and Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin; Johor MIC chairman Datuk K.S. Balakrishnan; Permas assemblyman Datuk MM Samy and Johor Jaya assemblyman Tan Cher Puk. Palanivel said the selection of the winnable candidates from the list would be made by Najib after his return from the United States of America.

"The list contains a combination of old and new faces, including women, with experience and have at least a bachelor's degree.

He said MIC was confident of retaining the four state seats (Gambir, Tenggaroh, Kahang and Permas) and the Segamat parliamentary seats in Johor.

MIC, he said, was also willing to discuss on the proposed switching of seats with other BN component parties based on a win-win situation.

At the function Palanivel and Mohamed Khaled handed over various government aid, including the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) and the 1Malaysia Notebook, to the recipients.
